Experience with Actolind in Venous Ulcer Treatment
Initial Complaint / Baseline Assessment
The patient is a 62-year-old woman with a venous insufficiency-related ulcer at the site of surgery performed in 1992 (17 years ago) and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. The patient’s body mass index is 42.4%. Over 12 weeks, dressings were applied 42 times in total, every other day, with a three-layer bandage system. The initial and 82-day follow-up photographs of the case were taken with the patient’s consent.
Identified Case
Dressings were applied using the three-layer bandage system together with Actolind gel and solution. The wound was opened appropriately. It was pre-rinsed with isotonic solution. The wound was rinsed again with Actolind solution. After rinsing, the dead tissue was observed to have separated from the healthy skin. The dead tissue was debrided. Actolind gel was applied to cover the entire wound. The wound was closed appropriately. The three-layer bandage system was then applied and wrapped appropriately over it.
Discussion and Conclusion
Complete recovery was achieved within eighty-two days.
