Experience with Actolind in Burn Treatment
Initial Complaint / Baseline Assessment
A 23-year-old male patient who presented to our emergency department on 06.06.08 had a second-degree burn on his right arm caused by boiling water being spilled on it. The patient had received initial treatment at another institution 3 days earlier. This patient received wound dressings over 10 days, for a total of 7 sessions: daily for the first 4 days and every other day thereafter. Photographs of the case at the outset and 10 days later were taken with the patient’s consent.
Identified Case
We followed this sequence while performing the wound dressings. The wound was appropriately opened. It was pre-rinsed with isotonic solution. The wound was rinsed again with Actolind liquid. After rinsing, the dead tissue was observed to have separated from the healthy skin. The dead tissue was debrided. Actolind gel was applied to cover the entire wound. The wound was appropriately covered.
Discussion and Conclusion
Complete healing was achieved within 10 days.
